Geographical indications for Binh Phuoc cashew nut products are under the project "Supporting the development of geographical indications in Vietnam" using ODA funded by the French Government.
Binh Phuoc province is famous for cashew nuts. The geographical indications for Binh Phuoc will contribute to the improvement of the legal and institutional framework, creating a solid foundation for the cashew nut of Binh Phuoc to reach the international market, high cashew nut value, development of domestic cashew industry sustainability.
According to the association of Vietnam, in the first phase will conduct research on the benefits of cashews, introduce the nutritional value of cashews to consumers. The phase will be conducted to develop the geographical indications of cashew nuts in Vietnam. Specifically, cashew will be selected in Binh Phuoc province to be piloted. In addition, it will register the protection of Vietnam's cashew nuts in major markets such as USA, China and EU. At the third stage will build national cashew nuts brand.
Geographic indices will help businesses build systems, cut down on middle-income manufacturing costs, and increase revenue through access to a segmented market. Geographic indications also help consumers control the origin and quality of products, and enhance commercial communications.
Geographical Indications for Binh Phuoc Cashewnut
Currently, cashew growing area in Binh Phuoc province is about 134,170 hectares, of which area for harvesting 132,133 hectares yields about 130 thousand tons per year. The "Geographical Indication Development Facility in Vietnam" project started in Binh Phuoc in 2016, the project was funded by the French Development Agency and the Economic and Commercial Agency French sponsorship. In particular there is support to build geographical indications for Binh Phuoc cashew nuts.
Cashew nuts of Binh Phuoc are characterized by their shape, physical and nutritional characteristics. The geographical area of the geographical indication is 88/111 communes and wards of 11 districts and towns with 3 protection products: cashew nut Raw cashew nuts, white cashew nuts and roasted cashew nuts.
At the workshop, representatives of Binh Phuoc Farmer Association described in detail the main criteria of the cashew nuts to register geographical indications Binh Phuoc.
